Hi. Jon Wilks here. I wanted to tell you about a piece of music I’ve just finished recording, a composition written in memory of my cousin, Will Chubb.

Will took his own life in January 2014, having struggled with mental health difficulties for the previous seven years. He was a lovely bloke and a great guitarist. I have a lot of lovely memories of sitting around kitchen tables, picking out sixties folk tunes – he had ‘Blackbird’ down perfectly (much to my annoyance – I still play a bluffer’s version), and we were always up for a John Martyn or Nick Drake tune.

“Willow”, the piece in the video and on all the digital download sites, is named after him, and plays from the memories I have of Will as a musician, a delicate and kind soul, and a guy who experienced all the different shades in which life is painted for us.

As someone who also suffers from depression, I’m eager to do what I can for Rethink – a great charity, and one that I know Will’s family support passionately. I don’t expect to make any money out of this recording, but I’ll be donating whatever I can to Rethink, if it makes anything at all. However, if you liked the tune and it inspired you to find out a bit more about the charity, and maybe make a donation, then it has done its job.
