about

I wanted to write and record something that openly, unemotionally describes how severe clinical depression affects me – how unattached and unreachable you are made to feel. I wrote this at the height/depths of a recent bout. It was quite cathartic. There will be inevitable Nick Drake comparisons, but that's OK. I always admired the unflinching way the songs on 'Pink Moon' dealt with this illness, so I'm happy if there are any similarities to anything that stark and important. The words are below. lyrics

There's a dint in the chair
A hint that somebody's there
But it's a ghost, just a void,
Just a shift in the air

It is drawn to the dark
At the heart of my mind
Where I'm alone and I'm safe
Cocooned here inside

So the hours crowd in
And refuse to move on
And they harden and seal
'Til there's strength in their form

A parasite now attached
Sucks the blood from my brain
And it feeds on my "self"
Until I'm, oh, but a name

I can see, I can hear
But I cannot connect
Locked in, in a loop
From one thought to the next

This is it, this is it
This is all that I am
Nothing more, nothing less
Just the shape of a man

about

The Grizzly Folk Hampshire, UK

The Grizzly Folk used to perform regularly, bringing their absurdist, psychedelic version of British folk and surrealism to the masses. These days, the main members have been scattered by the four winds and perform only when their gaolers allow.
