about

2018 sees the 10th anniversary of the first Grizzly Folk gigs. We started as a duo, playing British sea shanties to confused audiences in the south of Japan. Occasionally we'd write our own stuff, and eventually that avenue led us to the albums 'Gurning at the Moon' and 'Lairy Through The Town'.

We'll be recording plenty more in 2018, but in the meantime, we've been digging through some old, unreleased stuff. Expect an extended EP of old recordings in January, including this cracking little tune that Jon Wilks wrote and recorded as a demo, based on the frustrations of being the kid at school who couldn't play football.

Be warned, however – those frustrations led to a filthy vocabulary. This isn't one to play while the kids are around.

lyrics

Ever since I was a kid, well I've had
Desires I can't talk about
But I'm here to tell you
I'm fucking angry
He's a fucking beefcake
How can she be happy?
Everytime he touches her
Well she seems to need to laugh about it
Oh the female species
Can we just sit and talk about it?

There have been times when I've
Been drunk and I've been hasty
But I'd never leave her side
If all my world depends upon it
I've seen his kind and they're
Not worth the breath I'm wasting
It's all for kicks
But it's so easy to talk football
It's so easy to talk tits

Oh yeah
Come on now
Let's fucking have you

Take a walk by the old school
Hang your head on the iron gates
Watch the makeshift mafia
Oh, it's so cool to walk in late
Pulled up for skulking
Pulled up for baggy trousers
Pulled up for smoking
Pulled up to please the teachers

It's not that I want to
While away my evenings with you
Discussing Kafka
'Cause I'm as interested as you
It's just that I have
Never found it interesting
To shout and sing
About the birds you've had
And the boxing ring

Oh yeah
Come on now
Let's fucking have you

And as for her
I have never seen another girl
Who made me feel the same
(I wish I had the guts to ask her name)
And as for her
Well I reckon I could marry her
Give me the chance
To make her see
There's more to life
And there's less of him than there is of me

Oh yeah
Come on now
Let's fucking have you

Round the back of Safeways
Every Friday night
There with the top down
And every need to hold on tight
Hold on a minute
This weather's turning crappy
I'll sit and watch them
And wish that I could be that happy

about

The Grizzly Folk Hampshire, UK

The Grizzly Folk used to perform regularly, bringing their absurdist, psychedelic version of British folk and surrealism to the masses. These days, the main members have been scattered by the four winds and perform only when their gaolers allow.
